# ELIB auth.md

ELIB (https://elib.am) is a free Armenian digital library. This file tells AI agents
what needs an account on ELIB, how people register and sign in, and what agents may do.

## Audience

AI agents and assistants that help a person find, read or cite books.

## What needs no account

- Search, the catalogue and book details (with a short passage of the text).
- MCP server: `https://elib.am/mcp` (Streamable HTTP).
- JSON API: `https://elib.am/api/v1`, described at https://elib.am/api/v1/openapi.json
- Any page as Markdown: send `Accept: text/markdown`.

These need no API key, token or registration, for agents or for people.

## What needs a person's account

- Reading a book's original scan in ELIB's reader.
- Downloading a book (PDF or EPUB).
- Bookshelf, reading progress, reviews and adding books.

## Registration and sign-in (people only)

- Methods: Google sign-in, or e-mail and password.
- Register, free: https://elib.am/auth#register
- Sign in: https://elib.am/auth
- The person does this themselves, in their own browser.

ELIB has no registration or provisioning endpoint for agents: no agent sign-up,
no OAuth client registration, no token exchange and no anonymous agent credentials.

## Rules for agents

- Do not create accounts, type passwords or handle sign-in for a person.
- Do not download book files for a person. Give them the book's page,
  `https://elib.am/book_details/{slug}`, where they can sign in, read and download.
- Credentials: ELIB issues none to agents, so there is nothing to store, refresh or revoke.
